Production set to resume at platform where fire killed three workers

Black Elk Energy expects to put a Gulf of Mexico production platform
back online early next week, nine months after an explosion killed three
people and injured two others on the platform.

“Repairs have been completed and we expect to reinstate production
shortly,” said Art Garza, chief technical officer for Black Elk, in a
conference call Wednesday.

The Houston-based exploration and production company said earlier
this month that its investigation found the November fire was caused by
contractors who were conducting maintenance on the platform.

The company also reported second-quarter financial results Wednesday,
saying that revenue slid 38 percent to $66.4 million in  the second
quarter compared with the same period last year.

Black Elk sank into the red for a net loss of $39.5 million in the
second quarter, compared with $21.5 million net profit for the
April-June period of 2012, according to regulatory filings.
