Commuters on Interstate 10 east of downtown had headaches after a crash and car fire during rush hour Monday morning.

The vehicle fire happened about 7:20 a.m. on the westbound East Freeway near Kress.

The incident forced officials to temporarily block all lanes while emergency crews extinguished the fire and cleared the scene.

The other wreck happened about 20 minutes earlier on the westbound East Freeway near Lockwood.

No information was immediately available about possible injuries in the wrecks or what caused the crashes.
