Police said Prado was westbound on the service road of South Main when he tried to enter U.S. 90 about 6:30 p.m. Sunday. He lost control of his green Ford Explorer, police said.
Prado then hit the right rear side of a Toyota 4-Runner westbound in the center lane of the highway, police said. Both SUVs rolled over several times.
A passenger in the Explorer was killed. The driver and a passenger in the Toyota were seriously injured and were taken to a nearby hospital. Police said their injuries were not life-threatening.
The driver of the Explorer was taken to Ben Taub General Hospital. Police said it was determined he was intoxicated.
