Around the area and state: Car hits wrecker on Gulf Freeway; 2 injured
Alcohol may have been a factor in a crash that sent two people to the hospital early Saturday, police said.
About 12:15 a.m., a 22-year-old man driving a Camaro southbound on
the Gulf Freeway near Clear Lake City Boulevard veered out of his lane
and hit the left rear side of a wrecker, Houston Police Department
spokesman John Cannon said.
The wrecker, also southbound, was towing another vehicle, he said.
After hitting the wrecker, the Camaro driver sped away. In doing so,
the 22-year-old hit an unoccupied vehicle that was broken down in the
far right lane of the freeway's 17400 block, Cannon said.
Both the Camaro driver and passenger were injured in the second
collision and were taken by ambulance to Memorial Hermann Hospital in
The passenger lodged in the windshield and had to be removed by Houston Fire Department personnel, Cannon said.
If a blood test performed on the driver shows he was intoxicated, the
Harris County District Attorney's Office is expected to accept charges,
Cannon said a DA's representative told police.
