Area & state briefs: Driver arrested after 3-car crash leaves one dead

A suspected drunk driver was involved late Saturday in a three-car wreck that left one person dead.

Aaron Jaques, 22, was driving a 2009 Dodge Charger northbound in the 7500 block of Texas 6 north of Sugar Land about 11:30 p.m. when he rear-ended a 2001 Chevrolet 2500 pickup, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office.

The Chevrolet, driven by Don Johanson, lurched forward, entered the southbound lanes and ran head-on into a 2010 Dodge Ram driven by Saul Grimaldo with passengers Miriam and Homero Grimaldo.

Johanson sustained fatal injuries. An unresponsive Saul Grimaldo was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital. Homero and Miriam Grimaldo also were taken to Memorial Hermann for treatment. Their condition is unknown.

Jaques fled on foot after the collision, police said, but was found and arrested almost an hour and a half later. According to authorities, a witness identified Jaques and an investigator determined Jaques had been drinking.

On Sunday, Jaques was charged with intoxicated manslaughter with a vehicle and intoxicated assault with a vehicle that caused serious bodily injury. Jaques, who had no previous record in Harris County, is out of jail on a $30,000 bond, according to county court records.
