A man died and his passenger was critically injured when their vehicle slammed into a pole Sunday night in northeast Houston.
The single-vehicle wreck happened in the 8800 block of Market near the 610 East Loop north about 9:10 p.m., according to the Houston Police Department.
Police said the vehicle was westbound on Market at a high rate of speed when the driver failed to maintain a single lane, left the road and smashed into a pole.
The driver, whose name has not been released, died at the scene. His passenger was rushed to LBJ General Hospital. Police did not release details of the person's injuries but said the passenger was in critical condition. The person's name has not been released.
Police said evidence suggesting the people may have been intoxicated was found, but investigators did not release details of that evidence.
