TEXAS CITY — A motorcyclist died Monday in a collision with a car, and police closed a thoroughfare to investigate.
Eduardo Lopez, 46, died at the scene of the 6:56 a.m. crash with an automobile driven by a woman who ran a traffic light while on her way to work in Galveston, Texas City police Capt. Brian Goetschius said.
Lopez was eastbound on FM 519 on a 2006 Harley-Davidson Sportster. When the light changed green, Lopez proceeded into the intersection and was hit by a woman, 32, who drove a 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier south on state Highway 146. There were no pre-impact skid marks, Goetschius said.
“The collision happened in the intersection,” Goetschius said. “Speed and running the red light were contributing factors. Intoxication was not an issue. She was distraught but cooperative.”
No charges were filed, but the case remained under review by police and the Galveston County District Attorney’s Office.
Lopez worked at Brock Services, a company that specializes as an industrial contractor. Lopez was not wearing a helmet and suffered a fatal head injury, Goetschius said.
Goetschius said Lopez was married and had two children.
Police closed the intersection for about three hours to investigate.
