Motorcyclist, driver killed in separate wrecks
Two men died in separate traffic crashes in southeast and northwest Houston early Thursday morning.
A motorcyclist died about 5 a.m. Thursday in the 7800 block of the southbound Gulf Freeway near the 610 South Loop, according to the Houston Police Department.
Police said the man was traveling on a ramp from the Gulf Freeway to the South Loop when the crash occurred. The man, whose name has not been released, died at the scene. No information was immediately available about what caused the wreck.
The other crash happened in the 1700 block of West 43rd near Rosslyn about 2:10 a.m. Thursday, police said.
An 18-year-old man was driving a gray Mazda eastbound on 43rd when he apparently lost control and slammed into a tree in the median. The car was sheared in half by the force of the impact. The man, whose name has not been released, died at the scene.
Another motorist told investigators the Mazda had been stopped at a red light and when the light turned green, sped away moments before the crash.
