Driver slams into League City cop car
LEAGUE CITY — A patrol officer escaped serious injury Sunday night when his patrol car was struck by a car driven by an apparent drunken driver.
The crash happened as the League City officer was removing debris from the 3400 block Interstate 45 northbound about 9:30 p.m.
Details of the accident were not available late Sunday night but initial information from police indicated the driver who crashed into the patrol car claimed he was reaching for a lighter when the accident happened.
The officer was dispatched to the area because of a large box in the road. When the officer arrived, he reported finding nails on the road.
A second officer was called to the area to help clear the road and was pulling up on the scene when the SUV slammed into the patrol car.
