Dickinson man killed in accident identified
LEAGUE CITY — A Dickinson man killed in a personal watercraft accident was identified Saturday.
William T. Kitts, 55, died Friday morning after his watercraft struck a bridge piling on Clear Creek in League City. An autopsy was scheduled for Saturday morning, a spokesman for the Galveston County Medical Examiner’s Office said.
Police said the accident happened about 11 a.m. Friday near the 1000 block of state Highway 3 in League City.
Kitts’ brother was riding ahead on Clear Creek. When he turned around to look for Kitts, the brother found the empty personal watercraft, police said. It appeared the watercraft crashed into a railroad track piling, police Sgt. John Jordan said Friday.
Authorities called the U.S. Coast Guard, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office to help search for Kitts, but the League City Police Department’s Marine Division found his body about an hour after the accident.
