Cellphone blamed for deadly wreck in Katy
KATY, Texas – A cellphone may be to blame for a deadly crash in Katy Tuesday morning.
A woman was killed in the collision near the intersection of Clay and Porter Roads.
The victim was talking on her phone and didn’t appear to notice a
stop sign, according to witnesses. She ran the stop sign and a pickup
truck slammed into her car. Both vehicles then hit a Metro van and all
three ended up in a ditch.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Four people were taken to area hospitals.
"Do not use a cell phone while you are driving, either way you
use—talking or texting—it is a distraction to what you are doing while
operating a motor vehicle," advised Capt. Darryl Coleman with the Harris
County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies say the woman who died was 29 years old. Her name has not been released.
