Boy, 7, airlifted after rollover crash in Texas City
TEXAS CITY — A 7-year-old child was taken by air transport to the
University of Texas Medical Branch with critical injuries Wednesday
after being ejected from a SUV on state Highway 146.
Preliminary reports indicate a 2001 Ford Expedition was heading north
on the highway shortly before 5 p.m. when the vehicle veered off the
road and hit some gravel on the shoulder of the roadway, according to
Texas City Police Capt. Brian Goetschius. The driver attempted to
maneuver the SUV back on the pavement and braked, causing the vehicle to
flip twice and land in the grassy median of the roadway.
Three adults and three children, ages 1, 2 and 7, were in the car,
police said. When police arrived on the scene, they found debris from
inside the car on the ground. Two car seats were in the vehicle.
