Around the area & state: Lake Jackson girl killed by truck on her way home
An 11-year-old Lake Jackson girl was struck and killed by a pickup truck on her way home from school, officials said.
Amberle Woodard was crossing an intersection at Circle Way and Oyster Creek Drive near Lake Jackson Intermediate School around 3:35 p.m. Monday when she was struck by a Chevrolet pickup truck, said Lt. Rick Park with the Lake Jackson Police Department.
Witnesses told police that the driver, a 63-year-old man, had a green light. Police said initial reports do not indicate that he was speeding.
She was a fifth-grade student at Grady Rasco Middle School.
The driver's blood was drawn at the scene to determine whether he was intoxicated, but no charges are pending.
