RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - Two men from the Houston area died when an all-terrain vehicle they were riding hit a tree in Pope County.

Arkansas State Police say the ATV hit a tree when it veered off a U.S. Forest Service road on Saturday.

Pronounced dead at the scene were 44-year-old John Andrew Beard of Spring and 48-year-old Jonathan Norvell West of Humble.

The crash report says Beard was driving and failed to negotiate a leftward curve and went off the right side of the road.

Beard appeared to regularly take trips to ride his vehicle, according to posts on an RZRForums.net, a site dedicated to discussion about all-terrain vehicles. On his online profile on the site, Beard lists his favorite trail as Wolf Pen Gap area in Mena, Ark.

On the site Sunday, his friends posted about the accident, explaining that the two men and several other forum members were on a night ride in the Dover-area in Arkansas.
